Where four ski areas sit within half an hour

Eight bases where the skiing crowds around the town: at least four ski areas within thirty minutes of a bed, counted from the verified access matrices.

How this list was chosen

Included: every destination whose published access matrix lists at least four ski areas with a verified door-to-lift time of thirty minutes or less, by any mode. The counts and times below read directly off those matrices; each row carries its own source and verification date on the destination guide.

Considered and left out

  • Innsbruck — ten areas in the matrix, but only the closest two clear thirty minutes; the depth sits at 35 to 85 minutes out
  • The Eagle Valley — three areas inside thirty minutes, then a gap to 55
  • Salt Lake City — fewer than four matrix rows clear the half-hour line from a city bed

Mountain-dense bases change what a week feels like: you pick the hill after breakfast, not the town before the trip. The bar here is mechanical — four or more ski areas at thirty minutes or less, door to lift — and the list runs from a Shinkansen town to a Colorado cattle town. The mode matters as much as the minutes, so each entry says how you get there.

Echigo-Yuzawa — eight within thirty

The densest base on the site. One hill is a twelve-minute walk from the Shinkansen station, GALA is fifteen by shuttle, and eight of the eleven matrix rows clear thirty minutes — all of them by walk, shuttle or train.

North Conway — seven within thirty

Cranmore is a fifteen-minute walk from the village; Black, Jackson’s touring network, Attitash, King Pine, Wildcat and Great Glen all sit within thirty minutes — by car. The breadth is the point here; the walkable town is the bonus.

Morzine — six within thirty

Two lift bases on foot from the centre, Avoriaz by cable car in thirty, and the shuttles fill the gaps. Six of fourteen rows clear the bar, which understates it: the fourteen-row matrix is the deepest on the site.

Davos & Klosters — five within thirty

Jakobshorn on foot, Schatzalp by funicular, Parsenn and Rinerhorn by train — five areas inside thirty minutes and not one of them needs a car.

Aspen & the Roaring Fork — four within thirty

Aspen Mountain’s gondola is ten minutes on foot from downtown, with Buttermilk and Highlands twenty by free shuttle. Four areas in half an hour, three of them without driving.

Banff — four within thirty

Norquay twenty minutes by free shuttle, Sunshine twenty-five, the Nordic options filling out four inside the half hour — in a national park where the buses are the intended answer.

Steamboat Springs — four within thirty

Howelsen Hill — the oldest ski area in Colorado — is a twelve-minute walk across the river, and the resort is twenty minutes on the free city bus.

Winter Park & the Fraser Valley — four within thirty

The resort is fifteen minutes by bus from a Fraser bed, with two Nordic centers inside the half hour behind it.

Every count above is a row you can audit: the matrices on each destination guide carry the mode, the minutes, the source and the date it was checked, measured the way the methodology describes.
