About SkiTripedia

SkiTripedia is the encyclopedia of ski destinations. Each guide explains how a destination works as a place: where to base yourself, which mountains you can reach from that base, how long each takes door to lift and by what — car, bus, train, shuttle or your own feet — and whether the whole trip works without renting a car.

What a guide contains

The core of every guide is a hand-researched access matrix: one row per reachable ski area, each with a verified transport mode and door-to-lift time, what that mountain is best for, and its honest drawback. Around it sit the lodging bases, the car question answered operationally, at least three specific things worth knowing before you book, and named alternatives with the decision boundary spelled out.

How it is researched

Travel times come from operators' own published schedules, never from third-party aggregations. Every statistic carries its source, its reference year and the date it was last checked, and a page is only published once it clears the standards on the methodology page. The full registry of verified sources is public on the sources page. Today the site covers 65 published destinations, with more in draft — and it grows.

About the editor

Seth Baker in a ski helmet at the top of a mountain, an aerial tram cabin and snowy ridgeline behind him

SkiTripedia is a passion project — built and edited by Seth Baker, and managed by InfoBakery LLC. Seth skied through his teens and into his college years before weakening joints from a genetic disability forced him to give up the sport. That changed in 2017, when he discovered that with the right bracing and training he could get back on snow, and he has been making up for lost time ever since — as many days a season as possible. Most of them are in New England, where he has skied more than half of the mountains featured on NESKIS, the New England ski resource — though the search for snow has taken him west again and again, and as far as Alaska. SkiTripedia grew from the research those trips demand: where to base yourself, and how you actually reach the snow from there.

The name

Ski, trip, encyclopedia — one p, shared by trip and pedia. Written as SkiTripedia in text and skitripedia.com as the address.

Scope

SkiTripedia covers the destination side of a ski trip. Mountain specifications — terrain breakdowns, lift inventories, snow conditions — are a different subject with different sources; for the northeastern United States they are maintained in depth on NESKIS, our sibling reference for mountains, and the access matrices here link each northeastern row to it.
