Where you can skip the car
One base in this region meets the no-car-needed standard: practical car-free arrival, walkable daily needs, and most of the page's ski areas reachable on published transit.
A walkable lake town puts two NZSki mountains on a scheduled shuttle from one downtown stop, while the third — Cardrona — sits across a chain-controlled alpine pass that Wānaka, forty minutes closer, would reach in roughly half the time.
One lift-served mountain, reached from downtown by an ordinary SUBE-paid city bus that no English-language guide has ever mentioned — the wedge this page exists to publish, in a destination too thin on ski areas, and too undocumented on bus times, to call it more than that.
